The story behind our packaging

When packaging becomes a work of art

Every Ownever box begins in the hands of artisans who turn materials into memory. A piece of packaging created not for a moment, but for a lifetime beyond it.

Crafted to be kept

More than packaging, it is a gesture of care, crafted by hands that understand the value of time.

That is why every box carries the work of Salomé and Estrela, two artisans whose disappearing crafts live on in every journey we send.

THE HANDS BEHIND

Two women. A craft that endures.

Salomé

Tile Painter

Salomé never intended to become an artist. She wanted to be a biologist. Her love of animals and nature led her to the sciences, and it was there, in the precise world of scientific illustration, that she discovered the pleasure of the line. Without quite knowing it, she was finding her way to the tile.

"When I'm painting I feel calm, without thinking about anything. The pleasure of the stroke, the way each line comes out . I can spend hours painting."

The panel she created for Ownever's packaging tells the story of three generations: the grandmother, the mother, and the granddaughter. A gesture that could not be more fitting for a brand that believes in pieces made to last a lifetime, and perhaps beyond it. Salomé found in tile the freedom that watercolour does not allow: if a stroke goes wrong, you start again. A second chance that luxury craftsmanship also understands.

For Salomé, tile art is making a comeback, stepping beyond tradition and becoming a contemporary art object. Her contribution to Ownever is exactly that: a bridge between what Portugal has always known how to do, and what the world is now rediscovering. What she hopes for her art is simple: that people like her work.

Estrela

Handmade Box Maker

Estrela was 14 years old when a colleague named Rosa showed her how to make her first box, for the Pocket brand, pocket squares. Thirty-nine years later, she still remembers Rosa's name. That is how she lives her craft: with memory and with gratitude.

"I think a handmade box already carries our love within it. I believe the love for packaging is already lost."

Making a luxury box by hand begins with a simple sheet, cutting, cardboard, paper, lining, glue, and can easily take four hours. It is not efficiency that is sought. It is precision, and it is love. Estrela has worked in this craft for 39 years and knows it is disappearing: machines make boxes, but they do not put anything of themselves into them.

Estrela's daughter is 10 years old. She grew up around her mother's craft. The moment she arrives, she picks up a piece of cardboard and makes a box. She says that one day she will take over the business. The message Estrela wants to leave with the world is this: value handmade boxes. Because inside each fold and each seam lives all the love of the person who made it.

One box.

Two stories.

One legacy.

Inside every delivery lies more than a bag. It carries the work of many hands, the beauty of enduring craftsmanship, and a promise woven to last.
